Hanebutt is a family inside and out
For us, being a family business also means being a business for families. With family-friendly conditions, extensive additional employee benefits and an extra commitment to promoting and training the younger generation. Thanks to this concept, we have a strong workforce with a high level of identification and continuous growth.
For four generations now, we have been running the Hanebutt Group with at least one master craftsman from our family as managing director and thus a management team with expertise. This way, we ensure comprehensive expertise and an understanding of values from management to trainees.
In recent years, the Hanebutt Group has grown into one of the largest family-run craft businesses in Germany - with 15 branches at 11 locations. From the north to the south and also in other European countries, we have around 560 permanent employees working on projects of all sizes.
We never lose sight of the fact that
every individual counts - just like in a family.
Following your convictions leads to convincing success. Therefore, values are not abstract for us, but part of everyday life. Living by them and guiding them, they accompany our work and our life together.
Attitude and heart
a family of craftsmen
1930
Heinrich Hanebutt founds the company in Neustadt am Rübenberge.
Not knowing at the time what a huge foundation he would lay, he founded the Hanebutt roofing company in 1930, aiming to use his skills to build people a safe home with a solid roof.
Today
we are in the 4th generation and see a stable common thread through all eras. Heart and passion for the craft and the attitude of how we run a company.
And we are grateful that each generation has inspired and promoted roof innovation in German-speaking countries.
If we could interview Heinrich Hanebutt today, he would certainly tell us about the early decades with a smile.
Of the war years and the reconstruction, which gave the company a wealth of experience. Of major church projects in which he and his journeymen carved their markings into the clay plaster or onto a rafter in the side aisles of almost every church in the Hanover region. Like a graffiti that we can still marvel at today - for example in the Nikolai Church in Neustadt.
Those years were a textbook... and today he would lean back and say how pleased he was that we had learnt from them and how we had evolved along his values.
1947
At the 1st Hanover Industrial Fair, Heinrich II heralded the 2nd generation of the Hanebutt philosophy and presented a completely new form of vapour bonnet for roofs. Own design - own production and a milestone.
Heinrich II Hanebutt now expanded the enterprise and extended the workforce, the premises and the range of services offered. Henry II turned Hanebutt into a company.
- Development of innovative aluminium extractor bonnets
- Motorisation of the company fleet
- Own warehouse
- Workforce of carpenters, plumbers and roofers
- Heinrich II takes over the management of the company in 1968
- In the 1980s, the company celebrates its 50th anniversary with 22 permanent employees
This innovation boost was observed by the third generation, Henning Hanebutt, from an early age and taken to heart in its value development.
Courage for innovation. The world is changing and we are not following the change, but changing ahead of it. With the heart of 1930 and the attitude and innovative spirit of today.
1999
Henning Hanebutt, now a 3rd generation master roofer, takes over the management of the company at the age of just 28:
This generational change - a turbo boost for the Hanebutt company.
- Employee development 1999- 40 employees by 2024- 600 employees
- Expansion of the company premises
- Hanebutt receives the DIN EN ISO 9002 quality management certificate
- 2002 Expansion of the business area to Great Britain
- Investment in machinery - Hanebutt is the first roofing company to aquire its own mobile construction crane and thus becomes self-sufficient.
- 2002 Investment in corporate structure and new branches in Peene near Usedom
- By 2024, 13 further subsidiaries in metal construction, roofing and timber construction trades follow
- Hanebutt establishes a solar company
- In 2020, Hanebutt celebrates its 90th anniversary and has since become the industry leader with major projects throughout Germany and Europe as well as flagship projects such as the Humboldt Forum in Berlin and the luxury Fontenay Hotel on Hamburg's Alster lake
In the meantime, we no longer rely solely on our technical expertise - already in the 2010s we are almost digital in the trade. We simplify processes wherever possible and have our own in-house marketing department. Social media, infrared technology, drone measurements, 3D planning, our own planning company with energy efficiency consultants, structural engineers and architects...
2022
Heiner Hanebutt is a 4th generation master roofer, managing the main branch in Neustadt am Rübenberge since 2022 and a member of the management board.
We are particularly proud of this.
Heiner learnt the trade from scratch in day-to-day commercial business and qualified as a master craftsman in 2018.
2024 Heiner founded the Hanebutt Institute with his father Henning in response to the new challenges posed by the shortage of skilled workers on the market.
To be the first - to be a pioneer... this is how Hanebutt manifested its vision.
From the first slate hewn by Heinrich in 1930 to the major project in Amsterdam that Heiner was allowed to design.
We are shaping the future of our craft. With attitude and heart.
